In the following we consider a system which consists of
two point masses m1
and m2
which are in interaction with each other.
As an example, consider the Earth-Moon system.
By gravitational force the Earth attracts the Moon and vice versa.
The attraction force which the Moon exerts on the Earth, is,
by Newton's third law, equal in size and opposite to
the attraction force which the Earth exerts on the Moon.
