Free fall with initial velocity

In the next video Walter Lewin demonstrates that the golf ball hits an object which is in a free vertically fall when the golf ball was launched from the device pointing at the object at the moment that it started its free fall.
The object starts its free fall from a height h with respect to the height of the position where the golf ball is launched at a horizontal distance d. Those initial conditions are expressed by

v0 = (
v0x
v0y
) = (
v0 cos(θ)
v0 sin(θ)
)     with     tan(θ) = h/d
