Heat capacity
For solids and liquids the heat capacity C
is usually defined as the amount of heat which is required
to raise the temperature of
1 kg of the substance
by 1oC.
In the past one used the unit calorie,
which was defined as the amount of heat which is required
to raise the temperature of 1 g of water
by 1oC.
One calorie is equivalent to 4.184 J.
