Fluid motion
Reynolds number
From the video at the lefthand side we have learned that the
Reynolds number
is given by
Re = ρvL/μ
where
- ρ=ρfluid represents the density of the fluid
(What
is a Slug?).
- v represents the velocity of the object
with respect to the fluid, or the velocity of the fluid with respect
to the object
(Foot
(unit)).
- L represents
the characteristic length of the object.
For a spherical object L=d=2r
- μ represents the dynamic viscosity
of the fluid (the stickiness of the fluid).
