Arrivals

Flights

Most flights arrive at Lisbon International Airport (Lisbon -> Coimbra = 200 Km). Another possibility is perhaps to fly directly to Porto - Aeroporto Sá Carneiro (Porto -> Coimbra = 120 Km). There are 2 ways to proceed from any of these 2 cities to Coimbra: By BUS or by TRAIN. In any case you'll need a taxi and, as usual, beware that some taxi drivers like to get some extra money from their guests. You are supposed to pay the quantity indicated on the counter plus 1.50€ for the luggage.

LISBON

Flights -> Train

You should take a taxi to the train station called Gare do Oriente. A good hint: catch a cab at the DEPARTURES zone instead of the ARRIVALS zone. The taxi drivers there are usually friendlier and the queue smaller.

Once at the train station, you should buy a ticket at the counter. You should definitely ask for an inter-city (inter-cidades) train or, better, the "alfa", which is the fastest. You will be given a ticket where the wagon number and the seat number are printed. There is a smoking (fumador) / non-smoking (não-fumador) option that you should ask for at the counter.

The train schedules can be checked at http://www.cp.pt.

Flights -> Bus

You should take a taxi to the Bus station called Arco do Cego (you can also take a bus - public bus line no. 45 (slow, price=0.80€) and/or special shuttle AEROBUS (price=2.30€ PTE) which stop at Saldanha station, some 100 metres distant from Arco do Cego). Once at the Bus station Arco do Cego, you should buy a ticket at the counter. You should definitely ask for a DIRECT BUS (directo). You will be given a ticket with no seat reservation.

PORTO

Flights -> Train

You should take a taxi to the train station called CAMPANHÃ. Since the airport is FAR from the city Centre and the Train station is right at the city centre, this will be an expensive trip. I recommend you go to the information desk at the airport and ask for alternatives. At the time of writing, we know of NO bus and/or shuttle which establishes the connection - someone mentioned the possibility of using BUS no. 56 . . . COIMBRA

Train/bus -> hotel

Once in Coimbra, the best will be to simply get a taxi in front of the Train/Bus station. There are taxi-queues at both places. Important note: If you come by Train, you will arrive at the so-called Coimbra-B station. There is another station (Coimbra-A) which is of no importance.
