Laminar flow patterns

Steady flow of a fluid, gas or liquid. At each point the average speed of the molecules is equal to a mean value given by v(x,y) and which is constant in time.     Stream lines for a steady flow. The flow streams from the left to the right of the picture. Notice that for a steady flow the density of stream lines is constant.

Velocity distribution for a fluid flow against a wall.     Stream lines for a fluid flow against a wall. The flow streams from the top to the bottom of the picture. Notice that places where the density of stream lines is small correspond to low average speed of the fluid molecules and vice versa.
