We consider an imaginary tube formed by a surface of streamlines.
The wall of the tube is made up of streamlines which enclose a volume of an incompressible fluid flow. Although such a wall of streamlines stems from our imagination, there is nevertheless no fluid flow through the wall. All the fluid which enters on one side of the tube leaves on the other side of the tube, without passing through the wall on any instant of time. |
