Free fall with initial velocity

A pointlike object is launched vertically upward inside a train compartment while the train is moving with a constant velocity.
A passenger inside the same train compartment, who, instead of counting the number of trees passing by, is measuring the various positions of the object in function of the instants of time after it has been set in motion, comes to the conclusion that its motion can be fully described by applying F=ma for F=-mg, the weight of the object.
