Flow in a streamtube



In the above figure we have indicated the difference between the space C occupied by the amount of fluid under consideration at the initial instant of time t and the space C' occupied at the later instant of time t+Δt.
On the lefthand side of the amount of fluid under consideration we find a displacement of Δl1, on the righthand side a displacement of Δl2.
Hence, on the lefthand side, the amount of fluid under consideration recieved an amount of work given by

ΔW1 = F1 × Δl1


whereas, on the righthand side, the amount of fluid under consideration delivered an amount of work given by

ΔW2 = F2 × Δl2
