The Kappa Meson
In 1983 I gave a talk on the VI Warsaw symposium on elementary particle physics (Kazimierz, Poland, May 29 - June 4, 1983) in which I showed that pion-pion S-wave scattering data are very well described as the result of an interplay of pion pairs with the full spectrum of quark-antiquark systems. The latter spectrum, which we called the bare meson spectrum, or, confinement spectrum, cannot be observed directly from experiments, but has to be extracted from the data by means of ingenious methods, which at that time were being developed by me, George Rupp, and our Ph.D. supervisor Cees Dullemond, in collaboration with Tom Rijken.
